About the artist
Tibor Stankoczy is a Hungarian painter (b. 26.04.1969, Mezőcsát, Hungary) who divides his time between Budapest, Moscow and London. His experiences living and working in these three very different cities inform his work as does his engagement with a variety of artists and art movements, both past and present.
Stankoczy is continuing in the tradition of artists who have sought to capture the modern urban world and convey it in all its dizzying speed and complexity.
For Stankoczy, it is fusion between past and present, between different cultures and between different aspects of our daily life (music, fashion, design, media, food, etc.) that is a major defining characteristic of urban life in the 21st century.
His paintings are inspired by all of these factors and the result is work that acknowledges, embraces and fuses all these varied influences. Stankoczy likens his creative process to that of a club DJ, sampling and mixing at will to create a set that will connect with, respond to, and reflect its worldly audience. The strength of his identification with club culture has led him to refer to his style of work as 'Djart'. What follows is a look inside 'Stankoczy's world' to 'sample' some of the themes that have captured his imagination.
